We are excited to welcome you back with in-library computer use, study tables and browsing collections. Capacity limits are in place, so once capacity has been reached, customers may be asked to wait outside before entering. As a courtesy, please keep your visit short to allow access for others. Please check for updates as more in-person library services become available.
Please note that masks or face coverings are mandatory as per York Region Public Health policy. Services are subject to capacity limits. Food and drink are not permitted in public areas.

Holds Pickup

You can pick up your holds at our new Pickup Window at the south-east side of the building on Church St.

Hold pickup hours are 11:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday to Saturday.

Holds pickup is easy and contactless:

  1. Place holds on books, movies, video games and more from APL's catalogue
  2. When your items are ready to be picked up, you will receive a phone or email notification. The "Pickup by" date lets you know when your hold expires.
  3. Bring your APL library card and present it to staff at our pickup window at the south-east end of the building on Church Street. Staff will scan your card (full-size card, key-tag card, in-app barcode, or photo ID) through the glass window.
  4. Please observe social distancing requirements as you wait for staff to bring your holds to the window for you to collect.

Please note: Masks or face coverings are mandatory as per York Region Public Health policy. As you approach the window please wear your mask. If you have had symptoms or may have been exposed to COVID-19, please stay home and do not visit the Library.

You may also pick up your holds at the first floor service desk when you are in the Facility between 11:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Holds (Place, Pause or Cancel)

You can search our collection online and place holds on items to pick up through Holds Pickup.

Items you may put on hold include books, movies, music CDs, video games, magazines, nature backpacks, pedometers, power monitors, Take & Make craft kits, variety packs, and more.

You may place a maximum of 30 holds on each account. Please cancel holds online if they are no longer needed so that they are available to others.

When your holds are ready, you will receive a phone or email notification. The "Pickup by" date lets you know when your hold expires.

To learn how to place, pause or cancel a hold, please view our Tech Tips video.

Browsing of the collections is now available. Please ask staff for help in finding that perfect book. We love to read and recommend the books we love.

We invite you to try our new Variety Packs. Each pack contains an assortment of 12 staff-selected items within a particular genre of paperback novels, DVDs or books for children, for you to safely browse and enjoy at home. Let us do the browsing for you!

You may return library material 24/7 at our return slot at the south-east end of the building on Church Street beside the holds pickup window or at the Aurora GO station drop box (located in the north end of the GO parking lot, near the bike racks).

Returns may appear on your account for up to one week. There are no overdue fines.

Aurora Public Library has eliminated all late fees for library materials. The Library’s fine free model will permanently reduce barriers to accessing APL’s resources and services. All existing late fees are forgiven, with the exception of lost materials.

Although we are no longer charging overdue fines, we ask that you return your items to the Library in a timely manner so others may enjoy them as well.

We will continue to send reminders about due dates. Items that are long overdue and not returned to the Library will incur a replacement cost.

Due dates still apply. APL will send three (3) overdue notices via email or telephone, then one Final Overdue notice via Canada Post in an attempt to retrieve outstanding material. Overdue items not returned or renewed six (6) weeks past their due date are billed to the customer as Lost items. Please notify the library of any changes to your contact information.

Please note that due to COVID-19, we are not currently accepting donations of books or other materials.

The Town of Aurora is responsible for ensuring that customer parking is available for the Library.

Street parking is available on Victoria, Church and Mosley Streets.

If you hold an accessible parking permit, please contact the Library via this web form (select "Circulation Desk" under Send To) or telephone at  905-727-9494 to schedule an accessible pick-up / drop-off service.

Computers are available for drop-in bookings at the first floor desk.

Please note: Masks or face coverings are mandatory, as per York Region Public Health policy. If you have symptoms or may have been exposed to COVID-19, please stay home and do not visit the Library.

High-speed wifi is available in and around the Facility. You do not require a library card to enjoy this service.

I don’t have a card / I lost my card / my card has expired.

Please fill out this form and staff will respond to your request by email. This email will also contain a link to schedule a Virtual Account Renewal appointment where you can present your ID via video conference to gain full borrowing, including placing holds on our physical collections, for our regular 2-year membership.

You may also apply for a new card or renew your current one in-person when visiting the Library.

Why are items I returned still showing on my account?

Returned items may appear on your account for up to three (3) days after items have been returned to the return bin at the Library or up to one (1) week if returned at the Aurora Go Station.

When will my holds be ready?

Staff pull hundreds of holds daily in various areas of our collection. Please wait until you receive a notification alerting you that your hold(s) are ready for pickup before coming to the library.

Where do I enter the Library?

Entrance and exit to the Library is via a new temporary door on Church Street. There is a second door available for customers with accessibility needs or for caregivers with strollers.

Staff will direct customers into the living room from either the staircase door or the accessible door.
